Our Story

Built different from day one.

CyteWorks was founded in 2001 by Robb Washeck with a simple premise: Kansas City businesses needed IT support from people who actually knew them — not a call center, not a ticketing system, not whoever happened to be available.

Twenty-four years later, that hasn’t changed. We’re still a small team. We still answer the phone. We still show up when something needs to be fixed. And we still think the best IT relationship is one where you know exactly who to call and they actually know your setup.

Along the way we built our own underground limestone datacenter in Kansas City — one of the few locally-owned facilities in the region — which now supports hosted solutions for clients who want their data close to home, in a facility built to survive Kansas City’s weather and whatever else comes along.

We don’t have a sales team. We don’t run ads. Most of our clients come from referrals, which tells us more about how we’re doing than any metric we could report.

CyteWorks founded

Robb Washeck starts CyteWorks to provide KC businesses with direct, local IT support.

Mid-2000s

Underground datacenter opens

CyteWorks opens its own limestone datacenter 125 feet below Kansas City, offering co-location and hosted services.

2010s

Expands to managed IT & cybersecurity

As KC businesses face growing cybersecurity threats, CyteWorks formalizes managed IT and security services across the metro.

Direct access, always

You never reach an intake team, a shared helpdesk, or an offshore call center. Robb, Duane, or Sean — every time you call or email. We believe you deserve to talk to the person who actually knows your setup.

Honest recommendations

We tell you what you need, not what generates the most revenue for us. If your current setup is fine, we’ll say so. If something is a real risk, we’ll explain why in plain language — no fear-based upsells.

No retainer required

We don’t charge a monthly fee just to be a client. You pay for work done. Some clients prefer a fixed monthly arrangement for priority response — we offer that too. We’ll recommend what makes sense for your situation.

We show up

On-site support across the KC metro. When something needs a physical presence — a network rebuild, a server swap, a new office setup — we come. We’ve been doing this in Kansas City for 24 years; we know how to get there.

The Facility

We own our own datacenter.

Most IT companies lease space in someone else’s building. CyteWorks owns its datacenter outright — an underground limestone facility in Kansas City that’s been running since the mid-2000s. It’s where we host virtual servers, co-location hardware, email, and WordPress sites for our clients.
